1798 DRAPED BUST $5, LARGE 8, 13 ST REV AU58
LARGE 8, 13-STAR REVERSE. WELL STRUCK LUSTEROUS SURFACES. WIDE DATE.
1798 saw the first bank robbery in the history of United States. The robbery, an inside job, took place at the Bank of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and the robbers made off with $162,821. In an amusing turn of events, the robbers proceeded to deposit a large chunk of the stolen money back into the Bank of Pennsylvania. Could this half eagle, minted in Philadelphia the year of the robbery, have disappeared with the robbers only to have been deposited back into the same vault it was taken from?
