1807 CAPPED BUST $5, BUST LEFT MS64+
BUST LEFT. BD-8. GEM SATIN LUSTROUS SURFACES.
In 1807, former Vice President Aaron Burr was arrested on charges of treason. Burr was believed to have been conspiring to form a new country from the western US states and go on to attack Spanish controlled Mexico. The ensuing trial drew spectators from all over the country to witness, due to the prosecution’s reliance on the testimony of an untrustworthy and self-contradicting General, Burr’s exoneration. This 1807 half eagle may have been present for this highly publicized trial.
