1822 CORONET HEAD 1C MS63 Brown
NGC Graded Higher:
In 1822, a group of freed slaves set sail for Africa where the American Colonization Society had set up the colony of Liberia and named its capital Monrovia after James Monroe. Liberia would become a Commonwealth of the US and eventually declare complete independence in 1847. This 1822 cent recalls the US origins of the modern state of Liberia.
