1830 witnessed the signing of a treaty between the US and the three Indian tribes of the Sioux, Sauk and the Fox. In this treaty, called the Fourth Treaty of Prairie du Chien, the tribes ceded to the US most of current day Minnesota, Iowa and Missouri. Representing the US in the negotiations was William Clark of the Lewis & Clark Expedition. This 1830 quarter eagle recalls a little known treaty that had tremendous impact.
