In 1835, Mayor Cornelius Lawrence of New York City dedicated the laying of the cornerstone for what would be the Astor House Hotel. The landmark hotel, designed by Isaiah Rogers, took four years and $400,000 to finish. Could this 1834 half dime have been used in part of the costly construction project?
