1838 witnessed mob violence on a Mormon settlement in Missouri that saw the deaths of twenty men, women and children. The attack also resulted in the Mormons being driven from the state and the arresting of their leader, Joseph Smith. This 1838 dime recalls the bloodiest event in what is called the Mormon War.
