1847 witnessed the General Winfield Scott’s defeat of the Mexican Army at the Battle of Molino del Rey during the Mexican-American War. The battle, one of the bloodiest of the war, resulted in the deaths of 116 Americans and nearly 800 Mexicans. This 1847 half dime recalls the defeat of the Mexican Army at Molino Del Rey that set Scott’s army up for its eventual capture of Mexico City.
