During the election of 1852, Daniel Webster received 5,000 votes despite the fact that the candidate had died several weeks prior after falling from his horse and suffering a blow to the head. It seems that while Webster was unable to secure the Whig nomination, the Know-Nothing Party made him their candidate without permission. This 1852 cent recalls the strange 1852 presidential election ticket.
