In 1852, the first practical steam-powered fire truck in world history was tested in Cincinnati. The team of three men that constructed the first of its kind truck soon demonstrated their invention to the city council which promptly contracted the men for more. In 1853, the first operational fire truck was put into use and dubbed “Uncle Joe Ross”. This 1852 dime recalls an invention that would go on to save countless lives and properties.
