1854 LIBERTY SEATED H10C, ARROWS MS67
ARROWS. GEM WHITE LUSTEROUS SURFACES. TIED WITH FOUR OTHER COINS FOR HIGHEST GRADED.
In 1854, Commodore Matthew Perry signed the Treaty of Kanagawa with Japan. The treaty, while not completing its main objective of opening Japan up to American trade, did open up two Japanese ports to the United States Navy for the purpose of refueling. This 1854 half dime recalls the first in a series of treaties with Japan overseen by Perry.
