1863 witnessed one of the larger battles of the Civil War, the Battle of Stones River. The battle consisted of 80,000 troops and a tragic 24,000 casualties and took place in Rutherford County, Tennessee. This 1863 silver three cent recalls a battle that saw the highest percentage of casualties given the number of soldiers that were engaged.
