1864 INDIAN BRONZE 1C MS67 Red
GEM LUSTROUS BRONZE CENT. TIED WITH TWO OTHERS FOR HIGHEST GRADED.
Nine months before President Lincoln’s fateful night out at Ford’s Theater, the first Republican president was nearly bucked from his horse the sound of a distant rifle shot startled it. When the President reached his destination, it was pointed out that he was no longer wearing his hat, which Lincoln naturally attributed to his horse’s quick movement when it was startled. However, when a couple of soldiers found and returned the hat, it contained a bullet hole in it. It seemed that what had startled the horse was an assassination attempt from an unknown sniper. This 1864 Indian cent recalls an event that very nearly changed the course of history.
