On April 11th of 1865 President Lincoln was assassinated at Ford’s Theater, a month before the official end to the Civil War. The president was invited to a showing of the hit British comedy, Our American Cousin, a show that the general public paid 75 cents per ticket to see. 1865 silver dollars, like the one offered here, were undoubtedly used to purchase some of those tickets and were present at one of the most shocking moments in US history.
