1865 witnessed the Battle of Wyse Fork during the Civil War. The battle took place in North Carolina and was part of the Union’s Carolinas Campaign. The commanders of the Union and Confederate forces were, respectively, John Schofield and Braxton Bragg. The results were a Union victory and the eventual surrender of Confederate Joseph Johnston in the face of now overwhelming odds. This 1865 silver three cent coin recalls a fierce battle that saw over 2,500 casualties.
