In 1870, the famed Confederate General, Robert E. Lee, passed away after suffering a massive stroke. After the Confederate defeat in the Civil War, Lee had been granted a pardon and subsequently became the President of a college in Virginia where his body currently rests under the Lee Memorial Church.
