In 1875, Yankee Hill Marshall Willie Kennard issued wanted posters for an outlaw named Billy McGeorge. Displeased that the bounty was merely fifty dollars, McGeorge and his gang rode into the Colorado town with a bone to pick. Marshall Kennard was up for the challenge and killed two of McGeorge’s men before the rest surrendered. McGeorge was then convicted of murder and hung from a pine tree. This 1875 twenty cent coin recalls the last days of the overconfident Billy McGeorge.
