In 1875, San Francisco based real estate magnate, James Lick, passed away shortly after buying a pre-fabricated house made entirely of glass. Purchasing the house from Lick’s estate, a group of men led by Leland Stanford donating the unique building to the city where it was erected in Golden Gate Park and became the Conservatory of Flowers. This 1875 trade dollar, minted in San Francisco, recalls the formation of the still standing attraction.
