In 1876, the James and Younger gang attempted to rob a bank in Minnesota. The robbery was thrown into disorder after the bank teller refused to open the safe for the gunmen and was shot and killed. Leaving with no spoils, three members of the gang were captured just two weeks later while on the run. This 1876 trade dollar recalls this mismanaged heist.
