In 1886, 1,400 workers went on strike in Chicago, demanding an eight hour work day. What was initially a peaceful demonstration devolved into a riot after the detonation of a bomb by one of the laborers. Police were called to the scene and the resulting conflict led to the death of seven officers and four workers. The next year, three of the strike leaders were sentenced to death. Could this 1886 silver dollar have been present for this chaotic event?
