In 1903, the Wright brothers completed their first successful airplane flight near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The flight, which took place on December 17th, saw Orville Wright pilot the brothers’ “Flyer” for a successfully 120-foot flight. The landmark event aptly describes the historical context of this 1903 quarter eagle as Orville and Wilbur Wright had been known to decide which one of them would pilot their crafts for a flight by flipping a coin. Interestingly, in 1969, Neil Armstrong carried fragments of the first heavier than air flying motorized flying machine during his walk on the surface of the moon.
