1906 LIBERTY HEAD $2.5 PR67 Deep Cameo
GEM DEEP CAMEO. ONLY 160 MINTED. TIED FOR HIGHEST GRADED.
In 1906 Congress gathered money to repaint the Statue of Liberty. The landmark had arrived from France over twenty years prior and had originally sported copper coloring, but had since developed a green patina. With Congress’ plans publicized, they were met with resistance from the American populous who had grown to identify the statue with its new color. Taking the hint, Congress used the money that had collected only to repaint the inside of the monument and the green patina was left untouched. This 1906 quarter eagle is a remnant of one of the most important years in the history of the Statue of Liberty.
