In 1909, a trend of wax-bullet dueling became popular in the United States. Started in France and popularized in an exhibition at the 1908 Olympic games, dueling with wax bullets allowed for the settling of disputes with the tradition of dueling without resulting in the death or substantial injury of one of the parties. Though the wax bullets were occasionally able to shoot off fingers in cold weather. This 1909 cent recalls an interesting yet short-lived tradition.
