In 1912, a large meteorite exploded over Arizona and lit up the sky. The meteorite, estimated to have been 419 pounds, broke into thousands of pieces that proceeded to rain down on the town of Holbrook. The largest of the estimated 14,000 recovered fragments weighed a whopping 14.5 pounds and currently resides in the American Museum of Natural History in New York. This 1912 eagle recalls the day that meteorites rained down on a small Arizona town.
