In 1927, the Dumbarton Bridge carried the first auto traffic across the San Francisco Bay. The Bridge was constructed by an entrepreneur for an untold sum and purchased by the government in 1951 for $2.5 million. While the bridge is no longer in use, parts of it remain as fishing piers. Could this 1927 Peace dollar, minted in San Francisco, have been used to fund the construction of this original SF Bay bridge?
