From the time Europe first discovered the landmass across the Atlantic Ocean in the 15th Century and for the next few centuries, ships were the sole means of crossing the great barrier. In addition to the time-costly voyages it was necessary to employ a large crew to take on the endeavor. That changed when Charles Lindbergh took off from Long Island in The Spirit of St. Louis and landed thirty-three hours later in Paris, becoming the first man to fly solo across Atlantic. This came less than a decade after the first general trans-Atlantic flight was completed. Could this 1927 S quarter have played a part in this milestone of transportation?
