Trading Expertise & Leadership

RCW CEO, Steven Contursi, has been a professional numismatic trader since 1975. In addition to holding executive positions in several prominent rare coin and precious metals companies, Steve has leveraged his childhood hobby into building one of America’s most respected rare coin companies – Rare Coin Wholesalers.
Steve Contursi is known for having purchased, personally owned and sold two of the world’s most expensive and significant coin rarities. In May 2010, he sold his 1794 “Flowing Hair Silver Dollar” for a then world record price of $7.85 million. In January 2011, Steve sold his 1787 “Brasher Doubloon”, which was purchased by a Wall Street investment firm for nearly $7.4 million.
He has managed one of the largest active inventories of U.S. rare coins in the world since 2006. He has also successfully managed RCW’s Active Asset Management Account for private investors since 2009.
President, Michael Contursi, has been influential in expanding RCW’s vision to include a “portfolio solution platform” for clients who seek customized wealth preservation and capital appreciation strategies. His vision is to expand the company that his father built by providing the benefits of this asset class to qualified investors outside of the marketplace through education and cultivating personal relationships.

Testimonials

“RCW's results have exceeded their suggested possible returns. Their expert skill in this field assures me that my account is in the very best hands. All transactions have been conducted in the most professional manner for customer satisfaction. I would recommend RCW with confidence to anyone who desires to have a rare coin collection.”
B. Jones | Client | Illinois
“The market place for tremendous rarities, great items, has been strong because there are lots of dollars chasing great items, just as there are in the art world. And one of the places you can find fantastic items on any given day and really the marketplace for those rarities is RCW. You go over to their booth at a given trade show and they have tens of millions of the greatest coins. It is a very tremendous effort to accumulate those sorts of items and they have them at any given time.”
Mark Salzberg | Chairman of the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC)
“I initiated my Numismatic Trading Account with RCW Financial in June 2010. In the three years I have had this account, profits have exceeded $100,000 with an annualized profit of around 10%. In addition to the outstanding financial gains received, I have found the representatives with whom I deal to be highly informed not only in the rare coin world, but also the global economic issues affecting the world market. Their insight on current events, worldwide economic conditions, and other financial markets have been very helpful to me as I make my way through these turbulent economic times. My investments at RCW are the most rewarding of my diversified portfolio.
R. Chapman | Client | Missouri
“I partnered with Steve Contursi over 25 years ago because he had an uncanny eye for quality coins. His expertise has sharpened and deepened over the years. Over the past few years, no one has handled more ultimate numismatic rarities than Steve: the Neil/Carter/Contursi 1794 Dollar - the first silver dollar struck in the U.S. mint; the King of Siam Proof Set- the oldest cased proof set; and the unique 1787 Brasher Doubloon with EB counterstamp on breast- the first gold coin struck for the young United States. Unequalled in his assessment of undervalued and undergraded coins, Steve will continue to be a major force in the rare coin market.”
Wayne Miller | Author of the books “An Analysis of Morgan & Peace Dollars” and “The Morgan Peace Dollar Text Book”.
“As an avid coin collector, the things I appreciate most about RCW are their integrity, fairness, and customer service. Their inventory of coins is outstanding and they will sell you coins at a discount to what they are worth. They deliver on their word at all times, and transactions take place quickly and painlessly. As an investor, I have been extremely pleased with the returns I have received on my Trading Account, and I'm simply not aware of another investment vehicle during these disturbing times that can compare in terms of principal preservation, safety and annual rate of return. I would highly recommend RCW to anyone interested in collecting high quality numismatic coins or making an investment in a Trading Account.”
S. Zimmerman | Client | Tennessee
“It has been my pleasure to act as a consultant for Rare Coin Wholesalers during its purchase of two of the most important numismatic rarities of all time. While researching the Carter/Contursi 1794 Silver Dollar and the King of Siam Proof Set with RCW President Steve Contursi, I came to appreciate his sincere love of these national treasures and his willingness to share his passion and expertise with both beginning collectors and advanced numismatists.”
