In 1807, Philadelphia pharmacist Townsend Speakman prescribed his patients carbonated water for gastric issues. To improve flavor, Speakman added fruit juice to the carbonated water and called the drink Nephite Julep. This 1807 dime recalls the creation of the first soda pop.
