About RCW

Company Overview

Rare Coin Wholesalers is located in Irvine, California and specializes in United States Rare Coins. We have done over two billion dollars in rare coins transactions, and owned or participated in the purchase or sale of over 70 of the “100 Greatest U.S. Coins.” As major auction participants, we maintain important relationships with America's largest auction houses and professional dealers around the world. In addition to our inventory of fine rarities, Steve Contursi, CEO of Rare Coin Wholesalers, is proud to have been the custodian of some of our country’s national treasures.

Major purchases to date include the 1794 Flowing Hair Silver Dollar, the King of Siam Proof Set, the Unique 1787 Brasher Doubloon, and finest-graded specimen of America's "most beautiful coin", the MCMVII (1907) Proof Ultra High Relief double eagle.

Rare Coin Wholesalers has decades of industry expertise and strategic relationships. We appraise, purchase, trade, and sell rare coins and precious metals. Due to our firm’s private placement of billions of dollars of U.S. rare coins, we hold a unique market position as we are a trusted resource for many dealers and high-end collectors who seek coins that may be located in our proprietary database.

Multi-Generational Family Business

Michael Contursi is the oldest of the five children in the Contursi family. Michael was attending college in San Francisco when the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 struck our nation. This was one of those life-changing moments for Michael as he felt a strong sense to protect and serve the country that has provided incredible opportunities for his family. Soon thereafter, Michael enlisted in the United States Air Force in October of 2001. After four years of honorable service where he was awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal, Michael joined his family’s business in 2006. Under the mentorship of his father over ten years, Michael was promoted to President of the firm in 2016. During his tenure, Michael has transformed RCW in many ways to include selectively offering access to his family’s knowledge and expertise to a limited number of families who share similar values and investment philosophies.
