Coin Description

SMALL DATE. GEM BLUISH ROSE SURFACES. ONLY TWO COINS GRADED HIGHER AT PCGS. CAC.

A semi key-date issue in the Capped Bust Dime series, the 1828 has a limited mintage of 125,000 pieces.  The majority of these coins appear to have been struck after the Mint introduced a close collar to the production process.  Nevertheless, the 1828 Small Date is a relatively scarce coin in all grades that is quite rare in Mint State.

Bring This Coin to Life
In 1828, a pivotal year in American history, marked by significant developments and cultural milestones, the landscape of the nation was indelibly shaped by events of innovation, discovery, and political evolution. The publication of Noah Webster's ""American Dictionary of the English Language"" was a monumental achievement, finalizing a 28-year effort to standardize American English, introducing 70,000 entries and highlighting the unique American lexicon. This year also saw the fiercely contested presidential election that brought Andrew Jackson, a figure representing the ""common man,"" into the White House, signifying a dramatic shift in American politics and the rise of the Democratic Party. The commencement of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad's construction on July 4, 1828, underlined the nation's burgeoning ambition to connect its vast territories, enhancing trade and mobility across its expanding borders. Meanwhile, the discovery of gold in the North Georgia mountains ignited the first major gold rush in the United States, drawing thousands to the region and significantly impacting the nation's economic landscape. Despite its contentious nature, the Tariff of 1828, dubbed the ""Tariff of Abominations,"" played a crucial role in the economic discourse of the era, demonstrating the complexities of American industrial policy and its far-reaching effects on domestic and international relations. Together, these events from 1828 encapsulate a period of dynamic change and growth, reflecting the burgeoning spirit of innovation, the contentious yet transformative nature of politics, and the relentless pursuit of economic advancement that would continue to define the American experience.
