1842 BRAIDED HAIR 1/2C, RESTRIKE PCGS PR65 Red Brown CAC

For specialists, this PCGS PR65RB 1842 Braided Hair half cent, Restrike offers rich brown color and proof finish in a technically important format. Early copper specialists value these issues for die attribution, color, and surface quality as much as numerical grade. Attribution specialists will note Rarity-6+. From a scarcity standpoint, the issue is notable: only 27 were struck, and just one coin has been graded higher by PCGS. The proof manufacture gives the design a different visual presence than regular coinage, making surface originality especially important. Its importance rests on more than grade alone: attribution, surface character, and context all contribute to its appeal.
