1844 LIBERTY SEATED 10C, DRAPERY PR64
LITTLE ORPHAN ANNIE DIME. ONLY 8 STRUCK. CAC.
NGC Graded Higher:
In 1844, the United States annexed the Republic of Texas, nine years after the area declared independence from Mexico. The US waited so long in annexing the area as they wished to avoid provoking war with Mexico. Sure enough, even after nine years, the annexation was not seen favorably in Mexico and was one of the factors leading to the outbreak of the Mexican-American War in 1846. This 1844 dime recalls the establishment of the state of Texas.
