In 1876, the legendary Wild Bill Hickok was in Deadwood, South Dakota. Hickok rose to fame first as a fugitive gunfighter before becoming a wild west lawman. Wild Bill was also known for his prolific gambling, a vice that eventually led to his death in Deadwood. A man who had lost money to Bill in a saloon poker game left the establishment only to return the next night with a gun and a mind for vengeance. The man approached Wild Bill from behind and shot the sitting man in the back of the head. This 1876 three-dollar gold coin remembers the poker game that led to the death of Wild Bill Hickok.
