In 1908, the Chicago Cubs won the World Series the last time for at least 108 years. The last time the franchise reached the World Series was in 1945, when a supposed curse was placed on the team. The owner of Billy the goat, the mascot of Billy Goat Tavern, was asked to remove his animal from the venue after some fans complained of its smell. Adherents to the curse claim that at that point, the goat’s owner placed a curse on the Cubs for the insult to his goat, saying that the team would not win that World Series or any series after. In attempts to break the curse, the nephew of the aforementioned Billy the goat owner has been brought onto Wrigley field with his own goat on four separate occasions. This 1908 quarter eagle recalls the beginning of this interesting sports saga.
